Project Overview

This project in Rugby involved modernising the staircase and landing area while also improving safety and structural stability. The client wanted a contemporary look but also required the landing balustrade to be strengthened and the handrail height increased for greater safety.

Robert McVey Staircases developed a bespoke solution that enhanced the appearance of the staircase while reinforcing the existing structure.

Before

The original staircase and landing balustrade did not provide the desired level of rigidity or handrail height. The design also appeared dated and did not reflect the modern style the client wanted for their home.

The Renovation

The renovation focused on strengthening the existing structure while creating a sleek, modern finish. The work included:

• Bespoke Clad Newel Posts: Custom posts were designed to clad the existing staircase structure, improving both the visual appearance and the overall strength of the balustrade.

• Additional Landing Post: An extra post was installed along the landing to increase rigidity and improve safety.

• Increased Handrail Height: Adjustments were made to provide a more secure and compliant balustrade height.

• Toughened Glass Balustrade Panels: Glass panels were infilled within grooves to create a seamless, contemporary look while maintaining maximum safety.

The Result

The finished staircase and landing now provide a sleek and modern feature within the property while significantly improving safety and stability. The use of toughened glass panels allows light to flow through the space, creating a bright and open feel, while the reinforced structure ensures long-term durability.
