Project Overview
For this project in Burbage, the client was looking for advice on how to improve the appearance of their open tread staircase without the expense and disruption of a complete replacement. The goal was to modernise the staircase while working with the existing structure.
Robert McVey Staircases designed a bespoke solution that refreshed the staircase and surrounding area while retaining the original open tread framework.
Before
The existing staircase lacked visual impact and the balustrade felt dated. The client wanted a cleaner, more contemporary style but preferred a renovation approach rather than installing a completely new staircase.
The Renovation
The transformation focused on carefully crafted bespoke components designed to integrate with the existing staircase structure. The work included:
-
Bespoke Oak Newel Posts: Custom-made posts were crafted to fit precisely around the existing staircase framework, allowing the staircase to be upgraded without structural replacement.
-
Modern Twist Metal Spindles: Installed within the balustrade to create a stylish and contemporary look while maintaining safety and durability.
-
Under-Stair Doors: Custom doors were built beneath the staircase to provide practical storage while matching the new staircase design for a cohesive finish.
The Result
Completed in just two days, the renovation delivered a significant visual improvement without the need for a full staircase replacement. The combination of bespoke oak elements and modern twist spindles has created a refreshed and elegant feature that enhances both the staircase and the surrounding hallway.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can transform an existing staircase efficiently and cost-effectively.
